This past weekend I was recording a podcast with Josh. Due to his lack of an attention span he was checking his email on his phone. a peculiar email stood out. Straight from the--virtual--desk of Dana White was a request for a meeting! In that meeting, that I also got to attend :), Dana--without beating around the bush--offered Josh a 3 fight contract with the UFC. He also promised more depending on his performances. Josh and I were ecstatic to say the least. The first words out of his mouth were inspiring,
"Yes! I really only have God to thank for this opportunity. I was starting to wonder whether or not this whole fighting thing was worth it. I'll be honest, the only people that will see me for the next few months are my trainers!"
The surreal nature of the situation knocked me off my feet and into a frenzy of endless Twitter, Facebook and blog posts. Josh, on the other hand, drove straight to the gym to train. I explained to him that his first fight wasn't until next year...that didn't help. I find this whole thing hilarious. Josh told me straight forward that he didn't expect anything from this blog either and he only joined to humor me. I've never promised stardom, but all of my members always had these things guaranteed:
- In-depth fighter profile
- At least 1 fight
- A fan base
Josh is still in the process of training for his debut in the UFC. His gym, Impact Fitness & Martial Arts threw him a block party of sorts. We still couldn't believe the whole thing. All his fight videos on the site actually had quite the impact. I'm glad that my first member and good friend got what he worked for. I hope I can provide the same result for my other fighters.
